SUPER HERB-BURDOCK (arctium lappa)
Parts Used: Roots, rhizome, leaf, seed
Constituents: Lignans, Polyacetylenes, carbohydrates: inulin (45% to 50%), mucilage, pectin, sugars;miscellaneous:organic acids, fatty acids, and phenolic acids.
Actions: alterative, antidote, anti-phlogistic, anti-tumor, aperient, bitter, bacteriocide, blood purifier, diuretic, hepatic, laxative, litho-triptych, stomachic, tonic.
Indications: Burdock root is a powerful herb with a historic reputation for being an “alterative”, meaning it stimulates the elimination channels of the body to eliminate excess waste. Our ancestors called plants like burdock blood purifiers as it has a soup Pierier ability to eliminate long-term impurities from the blood very rapidly it is also an antidote for acute poisoning burdock can reduce swelling around the joints by promoting kidney function thus increasing the flow of urine it helps to clear the blood of harmful acids due to calcification deposits. The First Nation tribes of America used burdock as a valuable remedy for the treatment of skin conditions that resulted in dry and scaly patches such as psoriasis and eczema. Burdock is a strong liver purifying and hormone balancing herb with particular value for skin, arthritic, and glandular problems. Burdock is a good source of iron making it an excellent choice for treating iron deficiencies. It is also safe during pregnancy and helps to balance hormones and prevent water retention and jaundice in the baby. The plant gets its name from its tiny burrs or prickly seed heads that form from the flowers of second year plants. Burdock’s prickly seed pods will stick to clothes, shoes, hair, fur, gloves (just about anything!) and spread everywhere you go. It’s quite literally nature’s Velcro and the inspiration which led to Velcro’s invention in 1941. Burdock seed has been known to remedy soar throats and rashes. It clears wind-heat and detoxifies the blood.

Preparation and Dosage: To make a Decoction put 1 teaspoon of  burdock root into one cup of water bring to a boil and simmer for 10 to 15 minutes. Drink three times a day. Tincture dosage is 2 to 4 mL three times a day (1:5 in 40% alc)
